Toccata L’homme armé

In many depictions of St. Michael he is represented as an angelic warrior, fully armed with helmet, sword and shield. St. Michael was associated with the ‘armed man’ secular tune from at least the time of the Renaissance, during which period it was used as the basis of over 40 Masses. The kaleidoscopic procession of ideas in Jonathan Nangle’s Toccata ‘L’homme armé’ leads to a brief chordal presentation of the opening of this tune – David Adams

Toccata L’homme armé was written for, and performed by, Irish Organist David Adams in St. Michael’s Church, Dun Laoghaire, September 2014.
